A gutter vac is a ground-based cleaning system that uses a long telescopic pole fitted with a camera or brush head, connected to a powerful vacuum unit that sucks leaves, moss and silt out of the guttering. Because the operator stays on the ground, there is no need to lean a ladder against the fascia or roof tiles. The vacuum pulls debris straight into a collection tank, leaving the gutters clear and the downpipes free-flowing.
How the pole-and-vacuum system works
The pole extends to the height of a typical two-storey house, and a lightweight camera head lets the technician see inside each gutter run in real time. A brush attachment can loosen compacted material before the vacuum hose draws it away. The vacuum unit sits on the driveway or pavement, so the whole job is completed from a single position. Why it replaces a ladder
Safety is the main advantage: no ladder rests against the wall, eliminating the risk of slipping or damaging the fascia. Reach is another benefit — a single pole can cover the full length of a roof line without the constant repositioning that a ladder demands. Speed follows naturally, since the operator can move along the gutter continuously as the vacuum removes debris. For properties with awkward access or fragile roofing, the ground-based method also avoids putting weight on the roof surface.
When a more powerful vacuum is needed
Taller buildings — three storeys and above — or gutters packed with heavy, wet sludge sometimes exceed the suction of the standard unit. In those cases a higher-powered vacuum setup is brought in, delivering greater airflow and a larger collection capacity. The same telescopic pole is used, but the stronger motor clears stubborn blockages, including compacted moss and silt, more efficiently. If a downpipe is also blocked, the same visit can cover downpipe clearance as well.
